Long distance riding

I assure you that the story is true. The bike was still under warranty and it broke down on the freeway. Whatever the reason it broke down the dealer said that the bike is not made to travel long distances and that's why the warranty wouldn't apply. It's his own fault that he didn't contact honda. As some of you said the dealer is probobly ripping him off. Just understand though that I was just posting this to see if small bikes had any trouble with long distance riding not to post a bull**** story.

Maybe if we knew what was actually wrong with the bike we could offer some insights?

Just saying "it died" narrows it down to anything from a bad battery to a blown head gasket and everything in between.

Too be honest off the top of my head, I can think of several dozen ways to "kill" a bike.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Theres no way a quality bike like a Honda would die like that after a couple of trips...

I have taken my 200cc Chinese bike on a 200 mile trip at least 9 times at 100 RPM away from redline the entire time, and yet my not so high-quality bike is still alive.

I have to agree with the other posters, I'm not buying that it just "died".

Without knowing how the bike just "died", we just arn't gonna buy the story. The bike was either a lemon, was not properly maintained, hit some type of road hazard that damaged it before hand, or something of that sort. Any product manufacturered has the possibility for manufacturing defects... cars and even motorcycles are no different. Couple that with someone ignoring maintance... or doing stupid things to a bike like revving the snot outta the engine when its in neutral... can kill any bike too.

Btw... the ninja 250 has been used as a serious touring bike. And many owners, some even on another ninja250 specific forum, have been participants/competitors for the Iron Butt Associations rides.

Just because its a 250cc engine dosn't mean it isn't a real bike, or some cheap throwaway toy... it will do whatever you ask of it. You just gotta maintain, and care for it like any other vehicle on the road.

Hey man, let us know exactly how the bike died. We can give better info on what to do next about getting it fixed or who to talk to (some good suggestions already).


I'm betting the dealership found an expesive repair they do not want to provde for free. So they're giving your buddy a good yankin' on his chain right now.

I agree with you guys that the bike broke down for some other reason. I'm just stating what the dealer said. But this incident is already over. There's nothing he can do about it know.
