Tips on buying Motorcycle Helmets...Gloves
Where is a good place to buy motorcycle gloves? Anything to look for?
Also, what should I look for when buying a motorcycle helmet? Any thing to look for.....any good tips....what to look for? I want to buy a full face shield; basica. So I'm not sure what to look for or what not too. Thanks in advance

Some things to consider when buying a helmet are fit, ventilation, and wind noise. For a helmet to be legal/safe it has to be DOT approved(sticker on the back). In addition to DOT, helmets can also be Snell approved as well, which is basically a different standard of safety tests.
HJC is good. I bought the CL-15 full face. Snell approved, had room to fit my glasses, good vents, about $150. But not all brands fit alike, make sure you try on several different brands and see which one is most comfortable. It should fit snug but not be too tight.
Get leather gloves, a perforated pair for the summer and a lined pair for cold weather riding. I got my gloves from motorcyclesuperstore.com, they had a pretty good selection.

For helmet advice, read the Helmet Fit Guideline. None of my helmets have been expensive. My first (that I still wear in cold weather) was a G-Max. My current is a Vega.
As for gloves; comfort while gripping, padding (armored knuckles and padded palms are nice) and gauntlets if riding in cold weather (keeps the wind out of your sleeves). Personally, I carry 4 pair of gloves. A gauntlet cold weather glove, a neoprene waterproof, a motocross style mesh and plain old mechanics gloves.
As for where to buy, wherever you can try things on and get them the cheapest. Dealerships, sporting good stores, leather stores, specialty stores and online (for gloves and helmets of a brand/style/size you already tried on for fit) are a few places you can look.

As our medic said, check out the helmet fitment sticky... its a great resource. Also, check out the store link on this forum for some places to look at online for some good deals.
As for advice on motorcycle specific gear, including gloves and helmet (which I consider below the bare minimum required to ride) check out the link to the videos where I talk about motorcycle gear.

definitely go to a local store for the helmet and try it on. spend some time with it.
i did a bunch of research before getting my Z1R full-face. i found a local place that carried them and tried both a L and XL on. went back and forth between the 2. walked around the store like a frikkin alien nodding and shaking my head with them on. I went with the Lg in the end and have been very happy with it so far. its snug, but comfortable. i can wear my glasses no problem. $79 and very highly rated.

To kick a dead horse, read the helmet post.
On gloves gauntlet for cold weather if you have any and quality meas glove for 60 degrees plus.
Buy at your dealer where you can try them on first. A medium from one glove maker will fit a bit different than another. Also ask if the glove tend to stretch out a lot or not.
Also don't screw your local part dealer, if he stocked the gloves for you to try on, don't save 5 bucks and order them off the Internet. Next time, he may not carry gloves at all or what your looking for. Don't be shy about going to more than one dealer as they should compete on price and selection.
