Parking on the Sidewalk?

#1 Unread post by kennydude »

Hi guys !
thanks for having me on these Forums !
im kenny, i just got a yamaha 400 maxim about a month ago used from a dude in calgary. i have my learners licence (well the written) and im just gettin used to the thing by ridin it around (as crazy as it sounds, grave yards are good cause of all the turns !! haha)

ok so whats the deal with parking on the sidewalk? ive heard that drivers and cops etc like it cause your freeing up space for 'actual vechiles' but that sounds a bit hokey to me,

anythoughts?

(sorry i tried searching the forums for a related thread, if this is posted already ill delete this message :)

I think he means parking on the sidewalk.

As far as I know it is illegal in most places. Like any minor infraction, some cops will turn a blind eye to it though. I think anywhere you park is a gamble.

Don't do it. You not only may get a ticket, but a tow as well. It also sheds a bad light on the motorcycle community, too.

Nope. Don't do it.

LOTS of motorcyclist do it and get away with it. But as far as I know, it's not legal anywhere. I've researched it here in California and can't find any clause that makes it permissible. So, you are risking a ticket or tow anytime you try it.

Doing it on private property is a different story. Naturally, you can do it on private land, if the owners of the property have no objections. For example, if you work at an office complex, you might get permission to park on a sidewalk within the complex without getting towed.

But, in your example, in front of a theatre or a public sidewalk - nope. Don't do it.

oh sidewalk...i get it..   so in public in most any case no dont do it..but if u live in an apartment or condo and park there u will be fine more then likely unless ur community laws are against it...i park on the sidewalk in front of my condo..but i also talk to the manager first and he said he didnt care and it was one less parking pass they had to give away...
