Sport ATV on the street...
i was just sitting here wondering what would it take to make a sport ATV street legal... or if you can. i only assume that you Can ive seen plenty of sand rails and other things out there legally even pocket bikes.
be kind cool to get an atv and stiffen the suspension up, put some bigger tires on it and run around on the roads with it. i know youd need mirrors, lights, signals. anything else? would the exhaust need changed to be quiet or for emissions? can you register and get plates for them even? like i said ive seen everything else on the street with tags so i assume you can on an atv.

I've seen it done before in a ATV mag, I forget which one but the guy converted it to a 3 wheeler which one wheel in the back off of a street bike. It said it takes him 15minute to swap out rear so he can ride on the street then throw on the orginal back end to go on trailss

I know it's not legal in Alberta. You cannot take an ATV (considered to be a refular motorvehicle) on the road because it lacks certain safety features. Seatbelts, crumple zones etc etc etc.
Pocket bikes are illegal for the street because you're sitting so low. You cannot even ride them in parking lots around here.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

sucks to be in canada ; p here you can ride anything pretty much on the street as long as it has mirrors and signals.Sevulturus wrote:I know it's not legal in Alberta. I think that applies out here, too.iwannadie wrote:sucks to be in canada ; p here you can ride anything pretty much on the street as long as it has mirrors and signals.Sevulturus wrote:I know it's not legal in Alberta. If I recall correctly the rules are:
Must have mirrors/signals
Must have similar type license or endorsement (Motorcycle for Dirt bikes, 'Operates'/car license for golf carts)
Must be registered, insured, and plated.
Must have an engine size of 250cc or larger to ride on the highway.
Must be able to attain an appropriate speed safely (No doing 50 MPH in a 70 MPH zone)
There's probably some other specifics, but I can't recall...
Something like, no quads on the freeway, and golf carts must have seat belts...
We had a number of people in town running around on their golf carts (of which 0 owners were golfers

sounds like if they treat the atv like a dirt bike it would be easy enough to get it legal. here i think(after a little reading) its even legal to ride dirt bikes with no mirrors signals as long as your 'going to/from the trail near by' your not supposed to be riding any great distance and certain no freeway but the cops seem to let you get your dirtbike to the trails by riding on the street.
a 750cc atv would be wild on the street im sure

I fail to see the point of doing so. I mean if you really want to hang out in the air like that... with no seatbelt and no protection, why not get a bike? At least then you have the fun of leaning through the corners.

i have a bike. i want some thing different. its like a go cart with a higher seat and would be very unique out on the road. its not about going fast or leaning the turns, i can do that on my bike. just something different to go cruise on, not everyone is all about safety obviously, cant be scared of everything.Sevulturus wrote:I fail to see the point of doing so.
