To the OP: Triumph made matching hard luggage for the Trophy - the side cases came with the bike, and there was an optional 45 liter top case. I bought the top case for my wife just as soon as she got her Trophy, since the bike was already out of production two years. She rarely mounts the side cases, but the top case sits on her bike almost permanently - she loves it, calls it "her trunk", and says she notices no effect on handling as long as she doesn't have real heavy stuff in it.

My top case isn't that heavy and it's a 46 liter, granted it's plastic. I've never been able to fill it with enough stuff to overload the suggested weight limit for the rack. I'm sure I could if I picked up lead weights, but in normal everyday or trip stuff, it's not an issue.
