Rain gear maintenance

#1 Unread post by Murph »

I'm thinking of buying a set of rain gear. I have some friends who paid a pretty penny for theirs, and put it in their sattle bags. When they went to use, the suit was all stuck together, and ripped went they tried to seperate it. Maybe the suit was poorly made. Sorry, but I don't have the name of the rain gear.

My question is;

What can you do to help take care of your rain gear. It their a product you can put on it to help it from not sticking (like baby powder, talcum powder).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are some links of suits I'm thinking about.

Don't let it bake in the hot sun all the time. That'll happen, especially with a urethane-coated garment (which is not breathable, as opposed to a waterproof and breathable membrane) as the urethane will melt and bond to itself.

WP/B membranes will delaminate, though, when abused.

Our rain gear does not stay in the bike. We will only stuff it in the tail or saddlebags if the weather looks iffy on the day we go out.

Also, we take it out of the little carry pouch since sometimes we use it when we're not riding. Then we leave them hanging out to dry or on the coat rack.
