I see groups like what you've described all the time. It's great. And last summer, my dad came to visit us, and we rode out to a bike night meet together. It was me and my Shadow (couldn't resist that one), Scan on his ZRX and my dad on his Royal Enfield Bullet. Now there's an odd bunch!
If you look in your area for all-inclusive bike nights or the like, you might be able to hook up with a diverse group of folks (and bikes) for some rides. In the meantime, enjoy the friendly waves!
