Fondest ride memory

#1 Unread post by Ladymx »

Well with many memories of past rides and experiences the memory I like the best is the first time I showed up to a family dinner on a motorcycle(83GS550). It wasn’t the showing up part or the meal. Spending time with the family was great, but it was when I left that l knew I'd have to keep riding. In saying that, I had been riding for years on a dirt bike and over seven years as a passenger on the street. In fact, I had already taken a street course and had owned the bike I was riding for quite some time. I had been keeping my riding quiet from my concerned parents and just couldn’t do that any longer. With all of the concern from my parents as I was gearing up to leave; my brother being a brother and my Grandad stood quiet. My grandmother surprised me to all bits; in fact I was sure she was going to get hit by a car staring after me, in the middle of the road, as I rode away. I'm sure she would have climbed on with me. Her eyes were lite up like kids in a candy store and her excitement for me riding was amazing. After that dinner, I went to visit my grandparents on my bike and my Grandmother was so willing and wanting to be on the bike, unfortunately she was getting to be a bit fragile to take on the bike and Grandad would have nothing to do with it. She still amazes me to no end. She has alztimers, but something about the black helmet and now old black worn jacket seems to reminder her of something and she is all smiles.
I know there are many women with the willingness to get out and ride and do, but there are many women that have the same desire and are unable to for some reason. I hope to keep riding with their desire for years to come.

My story isn't that earth-shattering or anything. But the first time I rode out for a weekend getaway is a very fond memory. It took awhile for me to get adjusted to being on a trip without music and without the ability to just kick back a bit. But once I started singing to myself, and once I found a really comfy riding stance everything was great. I did both country roads and highway on that trip, and was able to pass others and keep up with traffic. Riding through the cities was awesome. Best of all though, was arriving at my friends' house in Detroit. The ride for that day was over, and I had such a feeling of both relief and pride. There will be other bigger and probably more memorable rides in my future, but the first ride away from home will always hold a special place in the memory banks.

Cheers,
Loonette

I have hardly done any touring, mostly in town riding, so I don't have a lot of stories to pull from. The one that I remember the best was when I had first got my license and my hubby & I rode for five hours (return trip) to some hick town in Alberta just to eat a hamburger at a local joint that we don't have in Calgary! It was crazy! But it was my first real trip so that made it special and memorable to me.

I suspect my most memorable ride hasn't happened yet, given my relative short time owning a bike.
Up to this point though, it is probably the first time I rode up the Sunshine Coast by myself. I had to go on the ferry....alone....and I admit to feeling some trepidation about the whole trip.
It took awhile once I got off the ferry and started riding....maybe by about Robert's Creek, that I could feel myself smiling...almost euphoric....that I was really doing this.
The whole ride from the ferry to my Mom's is only an hour, but it's an hour of mostly winding highway.
Being a new rider, it was a tremendous acclompishment for me, like I had overcome some huge fear or threshold.
The ride home was also very memorable and extremely challenging. I think a monsoon had hit the coast. The whole ride was in a really hard rain. But I was smiling when I got home. I had met the challenges with extra concentration and care and it proved to me that I have the ability to be a really good rider.

I have a new fond memory. Last weekend I rode the Sea 2 Sky Highway. (also known as the Squamish Highway ) :woohoo:

It quit raining around 11:30 so dr_bar and I decided to ride to Whistler. The roads were dry and the sky was blue. :)

I was really putting in extra effort to focus and concentrate....so no sightseeing this trip.....I was able to keep up with all the traffic on that extremely winding highway.
Do you know what I mean when you say found your rhythm? Well, it felt like that for me. What an exhilerating feeling to have accomplished the Sea 2 Sky.

We just did the Fraser Canyon to Lillooet (stayed the night) and back along the Duffy Lake Road through Whistler along Sea to Sky On Sunday/Monday. First long trip with my husband on his new bike. The weather was incredible, hardly any traffic till we got to Sea to Sky Hwy. (The new stretch out of Whistler is fantastic) We are planning on doing it again soon, but this time in reverse, forgot how incredibly beautiful it is.

Or did you mean "bliss...ter"?

Every ride provides new memories. Any time on two is a good time.
