Sure they are! But in my opinion , you could attach a damn milk crate to your bike, and still look cool

I guess a tank bag could be handy seeing as how my saddle bags are full of ice and beer.

I'm of the "who cares if it looks cool" opinion. Tank bags are practical, and won't be the cause of spinal damage if you wreck. I prefer a tail bag, but I'd use a tank bag if I needed to carry more than the tail and saddle bags would hold.
