Yamaha xj 650 Fork oil

#1 Unread post by thomak »

I just redid the seals on my 82 yamaha kj 650, and need to know how much oil I should put back in. I don't have a manual, so any advise you guys care to share would be much appreciated. Also any other things that you think should be replaced before doing much riding. This bike has been sitting for a while.

Thanks a lot

Did you air up the forks? I'm not sure which XJ650 you have, but screw off the fork covers and see if there is a tire inflation valve there. If so, add up to 17 psi, but not more or you'll blow the seals. Keep your nose away from the forks as the bike might jump four inches ... Yes, I'm talking from experience  ... The forks hopped and caught me in the nose. Even though nobody but the dog was in the garage, I looked around because I was so embarrassed.
