Begineer Sport Bike?

#1 Unread post by aireq »

I've never riden a bike before, but taking an MSF class in the end June. What are some beginer "sport" bikes that I should be looking at? I'd like to find a Ninja 250, or 500, but I haven't seen two many for sale around here (seattle, WA). I don't want to spend much more then $1000. Here's a short list of bikes that I've seen for sale in my area that were in my price range. Please let me know if you think any of these are a good or bad idea. Specificly I'm interested in the Yamaha FZ600, because I've seen a couple for really cheep. Plus I've read a few reviews which said they were slow for a 600cc bike so I thought that it might be an exception to to "beginers should not start on a 600cc bike" rule.

Oh and if it matters i'm about 6'0" and 165 lb.

fzr 600 slow?? they ruled in their day!! (600 class) i own a fzr 400. very rare. the 400 was the best handling bike you could by. only made for 2 years. it ruled racing for like 10yrs and only makes 60hp. keep that in mine. though the 600 is not nearly as nimble as the 400 but does make more power. so dont over look any fizzer. they are very soild bikes and at the price range you have set good luck getting any thing that runs! if bikes are that cheap in seatlle i need to move!!!!!!!!!

and were in the hell did you find a rgv 250??????? snatch that up for the cool factor. and when you learn to ride the twisteys like rossi you will grab for those keys every time.

I've seen two FZ600's for less then a grand recently on craigslist. Who knows if anything was wrong with them. They were from '88 or '90 or something. The RGV was on craiglist as well.

the rgv was never imported to the us. i think was to canada. but its a 2-stroke and ment to be on a race track. how much did they want for it??

if you like the fzr's go look at it and see what's wrong with it. they are soild bikes. but there's always the ones that have been thrashed. so be on the look out.

my advice is to get somthing that you like so you always willing to grab for the keys. if your smart enough to respect what the bikes are capable of doing you will be fine. you can carry to much corner speed and freeze up and crash on any bike.
