I have ridden in the margin at very low speeds (15-20mph) on the hi-way when traffic was at a complete stop. Even tho the cars weren't going anywhere a couple of them did nudge out into the margin to try to cut me off.
I have no idea what that attitude is about.
people nudge out because if they have to wait you should as well thus lane splitting should be illegal. I extremely hate it when there is road construction and they give you over a mile to get over and then you wait till last second to get over?? 1 thats illegal in michigan (you can now get ticketed for waiting till the last second to get over) 2. I will not let you in I dont care what your driving/riding. I have pulled over to the side before cause some jackass's decided to drive down the right bank on the highway (everyone had to get off on the ramp due to a major accident). I pissed a couple people off (they actually came to my window and told me to move over so they could pass). I said FU you can wait like everyone else has to. Thats what the attitude is about. as for turning right thing someone mentioned I would see no problem with that cause no one else is going that way thats in front of you so whats the point in waiting for all those going straight? But on a highway where everyone has to go straight (or anywhere else for that matter) there is no reason you have to lane split or pass on the side of the road.

There is absolutely no reason to trap bikes in traffic with cars when they can safely get out of the way and reduce traffic. And if people in cars don't like it, they can get bikes too and have the same benefits.

Yea it seems a wee bit silly for you to block someone simply because you want them to suffer with you. That doesn't help anyone least of all yourself. If they have the means to get through, why try and stop them, you only make yourself seem foolish, especially if they are/have been driving responsibly. Honestly that just makes you a dill-hole.

ever heard of wait your turn in line. I do ride my bike and there is no reason someone should be able to "squeeze" through (I am talking more road construction than city driving. I could care less in the city). You should have to wait just like everyone else as your 1 little motorcycle is gonna make next to no dent on traffic.

So you never use the passing lane to move ahead of another car, you just sit and wait your turn?

Quick question - how does a motorcyclists lane splitting through a bit of heavy traffic adversely affect you? If it doesn't whats the problem other than a bit of "misery loves company"?

Where i'm from lane splitting technically is illegal (can't find any black-and-white, though), but everyone does it. Tropical temperatures of 34celcius and a bad jam aint good news.

heck, even the traffic cops lanesplit (they're an entirely seperate division of police, they almost exclusively use bikes, yamaha diversion if i recall correctly).

only trouble is with lane splitting is that some motorists might open their doors to do what ever crap they have to do (mostly spitting) without warning. Though i'm not a motorcyclist yet, i have met with several near misses on my bicycle with motorists opening doors without warning.

1. the first statement has nothing to do with what he is saying. A biker splitting traffic in a densely packed construction zone with a car passing another car on the sparsely packed freeway (if you can use the pass lane to pass, its not packed) are two totally different things.

2. oh please, if you're stuck in traffic, you have NEVER at all been angered by a biker splitting traffic? I know most of the time I don't care if a biker is cutting traffic but sometimes I'm in a hurry; I'm pissed off; i'm in a bad mood, and so sometimes I dislike the bikers coming cruising between the cars.

Quick question- a motorcycle lane splitting through heavy traffic has NEVER pissed you off?

Of course it is - both are methods of convenience.

Sorry, but thats not a legitimate reason to want to ban lane splitting (whether in a construction zone or otherwise). There are tons of social quirks that annoy me, but I wouldn't go so far as to say little old ladies shouldn't be using my checkout lane and paying in all coins, or that the handicapped person shouldn't be able to use the spot right next to the entrance to a restaurant. Lane Splitting is a matter of convenience (and maybe safety for smarter drivers - better to be out in front than to be between a group of tight packed machines) just like anything else. Not using it because someones feelings are going to get hurt is absurd.

Not in the slightest, and I've seen it many a time. Why? Because them lane splitting does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in regards to my current situation. Maybe if lane splitting adversely affected other people - it doesn't. Just their egos.

Now if the argument was "Doesn't lane splitting "pee" you off - ", then he might have a valid complaint.
