It rained today so the bike was overdue on a good wash

Since I preferred not to ride today and had been putting off some routine maint. on the bike I decide to do some of that. I did a few odd and ends, cleaned the overall bike, except my rear rim since I was going to grease the chain.

Well I got for free some Motul Chain Lube spray from the dealer. I then proceeded to lube the chain. There is always some over spray of drips to clean up but I have not used this product before. It sprays on and acts as a thin oil at first. Then turns into a heavier grease like consistency. So when I went to clean my rear rim I had this heavy grease below the chain area. Good thing I used cardboard on the floor and had someone slowly roll the bike for me as I sprayed.

On the can, it says nothing on cleanup or even how to apply it (which I though was odd, until I saw it was made in France  )

So what is a good grease cleaner for a spoke and chrome rim? Ease of cleaning is more important than cost. I don't want to spend hours with a toothbrush and a million paper towels. I didn't want to just try out some bug and tar remover without at least asking, then screw up the chrome.

Ehh, I hate the way the Motul makes an unsightly white speckled mess on my black rims and swing arm. It looks as if some pervert just took a.... well, you know...on my bike :disgust:

The other day I was outside using some Eagle 1 tire cleaner/black shiney stuff and that wiped away the setup lube on the wheels and swingarm. I would venture to guess that WD40 or something similar may do ok at getting the overspray off. Just spray it on a rag and wipedown rather than spraying WD40 all over the place. Especially as you don't want it getting on rubber seals, brake pads or anywhere else you don't want WD40.

Edit: I tried using some Simlpe Green to clean the stuff but it didn't work.

Brake clean!
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car!
