AIR FILTER HAS GAS LOL

#1 Unread post by wickedrider »

What are some of the reasons why my air filter would have gas in it after riding? What are the fixes?

It would help if we new what model;/year/diosplacement bike you had.

If I had to guess, which I am, I would say the air filter was wet (with water and sometimes oil) from the crankcase ventilation system. The water will smell like gas.

My Nighthawk has a liquid drain from the airbox. If it is not drained regularly, the moisture builds up until the filter is wet.

Bike is an '05 Shadow Spirit 750. It didnt have that superstrong smell of gasoline yesterday. What do you mean by draining it. Do you actually go in and wipe the airbox down and dry the filter?

My Nighthawk has a clear tube that exits under the motor. Any liquid in the airbox collects in the tube. When I see over an inch of liquid, I pull the plug and drain it. It is water, but it smells like gas because it is in proximity to gasoline.

You may or may not have something like this. The crankcase ventiation system usually has a tube into the airbox. Crankcase vapors have gas, oil and water in them as well as some combustion gases.

That's usually a sign of blow by from your crankcase.Make sure your filter is clean and also there. is no gas in your oil. It could be time to replace your needle valve seat o-rings.
