excellent first bike!!!!!
in fact,
puck it,
why stop there,
jus grab a busa why loose all that potential extra horse buy just getting a 130hp bike when you could have a 180hp.

And look, a real good chick pulling and saftey tip for when you out on ya 919 or 1300R, ride in flip flops, shorts and a t-shirt, the chicks will get all hot and bothered when they see ya. Your gunna b the sh.it !!!!!

good luck

So in other words... No...
Basically, think of it this way, for a bike to have 130 HP, it'd be the same as a Mustang, putting out over 1K horsepower. Way too much for a noob. If your heart is set on the Honda naked bikes, check out Sev here... He's got a 599 that he loves to death! Might still be a little much, but much better than a 919. Anyway, good luck and have fun!

But why not get the 919?? Only starting with the 599...you'd get bored with it SUPER quick! The bigger ride the better!

well the 919 is actually rated at 105hp, which isnt exactly WORLDS ahead of the 89hp 599. it has a ton more torque however. its still too much, but in all fairness is much better than a supersport litre bike.

Bad idea. Even the 599 is pretty fast for a newbie rider. Look at something more tame like a gs500 or ninja 500.

27000km later I'm still having fun with my 599 :D!!!!!!
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Similarly-styled bikes that are better suited to newer riders in the same price range as the 919:

BMW F650's and G650

Buell CityX

Ducati Monster 695

Suzuki SV650

Triumph Bonneville

Moto Guzzi Breva 750

some of these may be too much for some beginners though.

2006 Aprilia Scarabeo 50 4T
2005 Moto Guzzi Nevada 750 ie

Ahhh, the Honda 599 and 919, two beautiful bikes. I wanted a 599 myself, but the insurances was quite high on it.

If you want something a tad more tame and a tad cheaper, but still in the same area, give the Suzuki SV650 a try.
