Cheers

#1 Unread post by JoshyG »

Just thought I'd introduce myself, so, here goes;

Well, I've been reading the forums for about a month or two, but only just registered a few days ago. I'd like to thank everyone in general who posts here, the forum has been a good source of advice and information. :)

I'm 15 years old over in the US, and I plan on getting my permit in a few months, taking the MSF, and then getting my license when I turn 16. Hoping I'll be able to buy myself a bike for my 16th birthday. Birthday and Bikeday all in one, sweet deal, eh? :lol:

See you around the forums. Ride safe!
Cheers,
Josh.

When you do get the bike you eventually end up with....please post a pic.

Do you have anything in mind yet for a bike?

Welcome and you may want to visit or checkout online your States DMV any rules only on teens. Like bike sizes, waiting periods, required saftey courses, req. helment or not, etc.... better to know ahead of time than be very disapointed later.

My favorite bike was my first Honda 4 cycle 125 dual purpose in high school. Great for fun with the guys and getting around on the cheap. With gas prices, you could use a cheap ride.

Well, I've been eyeing the usual 250 beginner bikes. The Virago 250, the Rebel and the Ninja 250, mostly.

But I am a big guy, so I wonder if I might need to go with a 500. That's what I've heard from some people, but I don't really need to go 80+ mph or anything... but, I was planning on asking about this in the New Bikers forum, since this probably isn't the best place for a question, so I'll just go make a topic there in a bit.

@flw

Don't worry, I've done my research. :)
I can get my license and a 600cc or lower bike when I'm 16. And whether helmets are required by law or not, I'm wearing one anyway, along with leathers. I don't much like the thought of my brains being splattered across the highway, or losing all my skin...

And yeah, one of my reasons for getting a bike is I can get a good one for less than a piece-of-junk car, and also save a load on gas. :D

Of course, I haven't gotten a definite answer from my parents yet, and they may decide against it, no matter how responsible I am about it or how much research I give them. If that's the case, maybe I'll just wait till I start college, and learn to drive a car first.

But hopefully that's not the case. :lol:
I guess I'll find out in a few months when I'm ready to get my permit.
