Ninja 250 vs. Ninja 500 HIGHWAY MPG?

#1 Unread post by NephTri »

Hi everyone,

Just have a quick question. I'm getting my first bike, and I'm 5'7" 130 pounds. I WILL be able to control the 500, right?

Well my actual question is, starting next year I'm going to be riding over to my girlfriend's college a lot. She's located about 280 miles away. The speed limit in Michigan is 70 (the nation's highest). Will I get better gas mileage with the 500? I'll probably be going about 75. Or will the 250 get better mileage? Is driving on a larger motor more comfortable on highways like cars?

Thanks a whole bunch

I've put 120k miles on GS500s and I get about 60 mpg travelling at a steady 70 mph. The GS500 and Ninja 500 get about the same gas milage in comparo tests.

You might get 70 mpg on the Ninja 250 at those speeds. Here's data from a CW petrol pincher comparo of a few small bikes and scooters that shows about that milage for the baby Ninja:

I'd rather do it on the 500, but I'm a lot larger than you. You shouldn't have any problem controling the 500.

Oh wow

Thanks a whole bunch

I wonder.. will there be a big difference in insurance price between the Ninja 250 and 500?

I'm 18 now and dont have any credit whatsoever. So I've been looking for a cosigner, and finally found one. The issue is I actually wanted a ninja 250, but the place I found to help me told me they could help me if i found anyone with decent credit or a solid work history, and they dont have the 250, only the 500.

Arrgh.. what to do what to do =p

Hold out for the 250. Better economics all the way around.
