Vroom......okay, who put the training wheels on my bike??????

Hi all from sunny (of the liquid sunshine variety) BC, Canada.

Found this site while surfing for a tech issue regarding an '83 Seca 750 I am thinking about buying and like what I saw here.

A little about myself. Well, my first ride was an old '80 Honda CM400, graduated to a '82 CB 750 Custom.....then in a fit of madness and a need for stupid speed/power, got an Arrest Me Red, Gpz, yes, the ' 84 Fuel Injected 1100 beastie.....can you say black leathers and brown trousers time?????

Went back to school, sold the Gpz for tuition money and another CM400 (what a let down, from a crouch rocket to a sewing machine), did a stint as a motorcycle courier beating up and down between downtown Vancouver and the West End. Went through two more CM400's, then got a KZ550, nice ride but shared the crappy electronics as the Gpz.

My last bike was another Honda Custom, the CB650. Bought it used although it only had about 1000 K's on it. Previous owner bought it new, rode it for a couple of months and then stored it (properly thankfully) for 10 years. Just need a bit of clean up, a little card work and it was good to go.

Had it for about a month and last saw it parked beneath the front end of a Ford 1 Ton pick up, I was sort of laying kiddie corner from it with my right leg tucked up under my "O Ring" in a rather unnatural manner. Yes, so silly jackass came across the Georgia Viaduct at Mach 1 and blew through the red light just as I entered the intersection. Bad new, CB DOA, good news, me still alive and kicking.

Now, it's time to get back in the saddle again, been 14 years.

Anyways, that me.

Yep...it's been one of the wettest, gloomiest Junes I can ever remember.

Are you going to take any refresher training or just jump back on a bike?

To answer your question.

Picked up an '85 Honda V65 and a new helmet. Rode it home (still have to recover the car damn it) and parked it. Needs a bit of work, the first thing to go is that god awful cowling, what was the old owner thinking slapping that huge monstrosity on? Gonna get rid of the back bin and highway pegs as well, but will keep the rear rack.

Need to replace the front tyre and get the forks checked up, they dive full down with heavy braking, so may need to replace the springs and seals. Engine and drive train are tight, got it up to 140KPH in OD while on the freeway and she was rock steady, mind you once I noticed I was going that fast, I backed off right quick. There is a bit of a wobble when doing slow turns, hopefully it because of that heavy monstrosity of a cowling.

I plan to ride it during for the next three months, mainly on quiet roads where I can regain some of the skills I have lost, then turn it into my winter make work project.

When I first took it out for a test ride, I was rather nervous and hesitant, however most of it came back to me quickly. Still no where near the level I was before, but that will come with time.

With insurance, a brand spanking new helmet and the bike, I figure I got a decent deal for the C$1800 I spent.

The bike behind yours has a particularly nice paint job.

Ah, yes...I know where Daytona is. It was one of the first places I looked when I was looking for a bike.
I ended up buying from Pacific Yamaha.

Daytona sold me my very first bike, about twenty cough cough years ago, a Honda CM400. Up to that point I had a '79 5.0 litre Ford Mustang Cobra, (seeing a pattern here?) which I basically blew up real good. When you blow your pinion gears in one of those while doing a burn out, you get to hear the most incredible BANG!!!!!!!. Anyways, needed cheap transport, sold the Cobra, an got the CM400. Back then Daytona wasn't too worried about things like having a class 6....they let me take the bike out for a spin, even loaned me a helmet, without look at my license. Good thing too, coz at the time, I never been on a motorcycle except as a passenger (You kiddies out there best not read this, might put bad ideas into your heads

). Anyways, bought the bike a used helmet, which goes to show how much I knew back then, rain gear and saddle bags and off I went.

Motor vehicles was just as bad or good depending on your point of view. After a couple of week commuting to work and back I rode down to the local motor vehicles branch, went in with my helmet in hand and got my learners.......a few weeks later went for the road test, again on my own.

Anyways, I am back in the saddle again, and I am now a dead man walking, or is that riding? My brother finked me out to Mom and she is not exactly happy. Funny how even when you are on the wrong side of your 40's, you mom can still instill the fear of god into you.
