Sunburn from a ride.

I went for a ride last monday. I got sunburned, and today my skin blistered.
That is a 2nd degree burn folks.

I remember getting my first fullface and thinking that if I wore it my face would be protected like in a car. So off I went with no sunscreen on my face but on arms,hands and neck. Well a face shield can act just like a magnifying glass.

hmmmm.. thank you for pointing that out because I was under the same impression that a full face would block the sun. I am now forewarned!

...or the mirror-y ones....they come in yellow,red, and blue....dark/full tinted looks alot better tho....mine was friggin $55!

i have a dark smoke visor and still get sun on my face. not enough to where it bothers me though

My clear visor blocks UV. So does my tinted visor.

(Careful about using any sunblock in a full-face helmet. The fumes will sting your eyes.)

I wear my Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket with the panels zipped off when it is HOT. People wearing T-shirts ask me how I can do that.

Since the mesh keeps the sun off my skin, but lets the air flow through, I am much cooler (and MUCH better protected) than the others who wear a sleeveless T-shirt and fry their skin all day.

Plus, it lessens my chance of skin cancer a lot.

It is often cooler to wear long sleeve in the sun. Also wear Wells Lamont winter glove liners. These will absorb the sweat from your hands, and keep off sun while letting air in. Not much protection though. Also a light colour helmet is a lot cooler than dark coloured.

You will keep cooler if you don't dehydrate. The body has already lost a large amount of fluids before the first sign, normal thirst.

And guys when not riding remember to cover your head. Helmets are very painful to wear with a sunburnt bald spot. Remember sunscreen and chap stick with a high spf. Twenty minutes of exposure to the sun at 10,000 feet is almost like two to four hours at sea level.
