I have a 1984 Honda Nighthawk 750 with about 45,000 km on it. It still runs great with one very annoying problem. The bike starts cold no problem but the ignitor seems to overheat if the bike is only stopped for a short time and the bike will not start until it has cooled. I have had the bike for 5 years now and after having the problem initially diagnosed I have gone through 2 used ignitors. They each seem to work fine for a few months and then the problem resurfaces. I am hesitant to shell out the over $500 the dealer wants for a new one. However, one of the guys I spoke to at the dealer was aware of this problem. Is anyone aware of this problem and how it was resolved?
I don't know about specific problems like that, but have you checked all your wiring to make sure you don't have a short somewhere causing things to heat up?
I know some Honda VFRs had problems like that. They started putting a metal plate behind the unit to keep it cooler. Kinda like a cpu on a computer has a heat sync behind it. ( I think that is what it is called.)
