I am trying to find some decent safety gear that breathes well in the summer, somewhat warm in winter, and is safe as possible.
As it stands right now I don't think I can afford a nice leather/textile jacket and pants.
Are there any good brands or recomended advice, such as mesh?

I think you'll do well to get some mesh for summer, and keep an eye on websites such as newenough, motorcyclesuperstore, etc for a deal on THREE season gear (that is fall, winter, spring) for the cooler months.NewbieRider wrote: I am trying to find some decent safety gear that breathes well in the summer, somewhat warm in winter, and is safe as possible.?
I ride year 'round and nothing is warm enough for winter AND vented well enough to keep you from cooking in the summer.
Look at textile gear. You can get name brand mesh pants and jacket for probably $250-$300, if you shop.NewbieRider wrote:As it stands right now I don't think I can afford a nice leather/textile jacket and pants.

Cool weather gear will probably run a bit more, but you've got time to save and watch for a killer deal.

I've got a Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket. The inner water proof liner zips out. The outer textile shell also zips out leaving a mesh jacket with armour.
Riding with a tee shirt and mesh I've been cool in 30 C+ (85 F) weather.
Riding with a thermal tee, fleece top and full jacket I've been warm in 5 C (40 F) weather.
I chose this jacket because it seemed more versatile than others in the same price range.

I rode without a shirt today because I had just finished shoveling about 4 wheel barrows of dirt and I thought, hey, I'll cool off but I didn't. I took a shirt along so I could go and get ice cream
so I wore it on the way back and I was actually cooler with the shirt on. I realize a shirt is far from legitimate safety gear but at least now I have no reason to not wear one.
