Not really dude, that just means your Alt. / Charging system is working properly.intotherain wrote:Hey so I don't know if this is bad but when I rev my engine, the LCD background gets brighter with the revs and so does the headlights..

If you need to get your Control Module tested I guess you need to have the dealer do it

cost $ 300.00 !! So I bought a "Programmable" one from Dynamark for $250.00 A LOT more "Bang" for yer buck !

Sadly the bottom line is opinions are like, er uh , noses ? everybody has one!
I would NEVER try to give you a definitive answer as to what is wrong with your ride without seeing it, and hearing it run. I would personally suggest a Qualified Mechanic in your area ...... Good Luck with it

Oh okay. I would take it to a dealer but I don't have spare money laying around.
I called the dealer and told him everything I said here. He asked me if I have ever overfilled the gas tank. I said yes. He said that it most likely sounds like a flooded charcoal canister than a fuel venting problem.
Any comments? Does this sound plausible? This is coming from the same guy that didn't know what a crush washer was.

I hear you on the "spare money" but I think the best you can hope for on-line is some one suggesting something obvious that you may have overlooked.
I just see this turning into a "I know more than you" game that is sure not helping you at all . I wish I could be of more help to you but the reality of the game is ; if you can't fix em you gotta pay someone who can.
Venting Problem - Ride it with the cap Loose, "unlocked" if its a venting problem the problem should go away with the cap open .
Bad gas - drain yer tank and your carb bowls and refill run it awhile if ts bad gas it should even out after you clear out the old stuff.
If its a vacumn line it will be popping on de celeration, easy fix find the end that is "sucking air" and plug it up !
If your bike is in fact Fuel injected about all you can do is check for a dirty nozzle, cause your pump and Rail pressure are all controled by your ECM also.
If none of these things help it is an electrical Problem . Icm
I hope this will help you, if not don't worry I'm sure I will be corrected in short order.

I called another Yamaha dealer in the area and they said the exact same thing.
Tuscon_Dragon, the California models have an emissions canister, also called the "charcoal canister" which the drain hose dumps into before it dumps it into the air. The 49 state model doesn't have this canister so the drain hose dumps excess vapor or gas directly into the air, but on mine I guess it goes into the canister where it is mixed with charcoal before it leaves.
They both say they doubt it's a ventilation problem where something is clogged.
Currently, I am trying to locate where this is on my bike.

The charcoal canister will be attached to the exhaust in some way. I'd look under the swing arm or just behind the engine. It'll be a big black box or tube or something similar.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

werent watching I would consider leaving it off ? Of course you would need to plug the end, an appropriate sized bolt will work for this, and just drain it every so often, you will see the nasty, building up in there .

If you were unaware of this all along, that tank may be just plane full of all the goodies that have been draining into there since day 1 ?? I am honestly not sure how that system works, most all non Cal. bikes have a overflow hose with a plug that you oughta drain when an inch or so of nasty shows on the hose. these kind are plugged so that if you are running in real wet weather, you wont get water in your air box / pair valve .
In the future you need to think about filling your tank to the bottom of the neck, especially in the hot summer cuz gas does expand. Boy I sure hope thats your problem cuz clean up work is a LOT nicer than buying parts !!

Do you think just unplugging one of the hoses would work to get this fixed? It would be physically impossible for somebody to take this thing out and the only thing that might seem at all possible would be to take pliers and squeeze on the metal circle thing keeping the hose onto the canister. even that seems risky because I don't know if I could put it back on...
EDIT: Well I unplugged the two hoses. I actually found a way for my hand to reach it... I guess I'll plug it back in in a few hours and hope it works! God I hope this works.
EDIT: Okay I pulled off the two hoses and I started it up. I rode for an hour without the bike stalling on me, however every now and then it would sputter.
Also, the bike just doesn't seem right. I have to put an awful alot of throttle to get the bike going.. Maybe it is just in my head.

Its a lot of work to find out, But I had exactly these same symptoms on the old Yammy SR, in the end after about 4 months chasing it, the cause was tracked to the piston rings being worn out.
Although I also had the extra symptom, that when the bike started bogging down, the header pipes / manifold (whatever you want to call em) started glowing red hot
