Advice on new grips with new handlebar
Advice on new grips with new handlebar
I'm planning on replacing my drag bar style handlebar from a '06 Suzuki Boulevard S50 with a '01 Savage pull back style bar. Both are 1" diameter. Want to buy Kuryakyn ISO grips but don't know whether to get the 6240 set which is supposed to fit the Savage bars or the 6235 set which fits the S50 bar. Is it the throttle and cables that make a difference or do I just buy the set that fits the bar I want to use? Sounds like a dumb question but I don't know what the difference is because they both fit 1" diameter bars.

Buy the set that fits the bar you want to use.
Changing bars may mean you need to change throttle, brake and clutch cables/lines because they will need to be a different length. Don't forget all the wiring has to reach up the bars as well.
Best of luck too you.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I was going to ask a similar question.
I just ordered new handlebars and was thinking about new grips. Are grips a pretty universal thing (assuming you have the right size), or do I have to worry about whether they'll fit the throttle cable attachment or whatever?

Just about all bars and grips are standardized at 7/8". Some custom aftermarket stuff might be 1" for the cruiser market, but even most 1" bars are 7/8 in the grip area.
Same with the throttle tube. All grips will come with one grip larger inside than the other to fit over the tube.

No Witnesses....

OK so I changed my handlebars today, including the grips.
The left-hand side grip was glued on and took quite some convincing to remove.
The right hand grip, being mounted on a plastic sleeve, of course slid right off.
If I buy new grips, will the throttle grip come mounted on the sleeve that attaches to the throttle cable, or do I have to somehow remove my current grip from that sleeve?

No it wont come mounted. You just put a little hair spray in the grip and push it on from the end an it will slide right on and wont come off.jonnythan wrote:OK so I changed my handlebars today, including the grips.
