I have an 8GB Nano and a 30GB iPod Video.

The 30GB iPod was the same price as the Creative knockoff, is much smaller, and has a far superior user interface.

For the Nano? Creative didn't even offer anything remotely close at the time I bought it.
Remember ladies and gentlemen: "it's the size that counts." Not the sound quality, not the software, not the number of availible codecs/music/video types, not the fact that apple uses a proprietary codec system, not the fact that apple doesn't allow you to sync to more then one computer, not the embedded DRM in apple's codec system, not the battery life.

"It's smaller, so it's better."

iRiver H10 20gb with RockBox so I can listen to my .flac!

Btw, you can throw RockBox onto an iPod and make it less crappy.

they were the same price yet in reality to your thinking creative has a less clunky user interface, can accept more types of files and has much better sound quality than the ipod all for the same price. hmm ill go for the creative anyday. Nano = gay "I wanna be like everyone else" toy that is nothing but pure crap. Dont get me wrong the ipods are good just nto as good as the creative does. However the nano's are pure junk and not wortht the time and $$$ people spend on them. kinda like what sev said lol.

0h and of course diemonkeys is right but then you lose the warranty as soon as you install it.

They never have to find out. The original firmware is still on the hard drive, I just clear off my RockBox firmware, rename the old firmware to what it should be and they'll never know the difference. I don't know if it's the same way with the iPod, but who cares, nobody who cares about music would buy one.

I look at iPods as the same thing as Harleys. It's an image. You will pay all the money for a name and image, buy all the branded items for it and then defend it against anyone who says "oh, I'll buy the japanese version that offers a heck of a lot more for less money" by snubbing you out, basically.

Hmm, I wonder if Apple stole their marketing idea from H-D?

I know I will probably get ripped for making this statement so I am stupid for jumping in this but oh well, here goes. Sorry guys, I asked a simple question and started a debate over whose music player is better and who can quote more product stats. What does it matter? Its just like your bike, if you are happy with what you have just enjoy it to its fullest. Who cares if someone thinks their MP3 or whatever player is better. iPod, Creative or 8 track tape player. If it suits your purpose, enjoy.

its more of a debate between those who care about how their music is played and those who could give a rats arse about how well its played but just care that its played. On one side you have people like me and sev (and many others) who care about the quality of music reaching our ears (man I wish I could afford 7.1 surround True HD surround sound system) and the the others who buy an ipod :D.

I just get annoyed when someone says "mine is the best" even though there's relatively little basis for said claim. Which is to say, I'm not saying creative is the best either. But for my money it has fewer flaws then the ipods.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I can't, but my dad can.

We also have an HD projector that puts out a 10' screen.

Actually, you could say we have a 7.2 setup, 2 subs, one on either side of you.

Cheap being the keyword. If I wanted my music raped I'd watch MTV.

I understand. Well I got my original question answered about "Not Mounting" the iPod on a motorcycle so thanks everyone for that. You saved me from damaging my iPod. Enjoy the debate. I don't know enough about either to really give an opinion. I just wanted something that I could listen to an occassional audiobook, podcast, and music while riding. Not knowing anything about them I bought the iPod just because of the name. Figured it was so popular it had to have some good points. It has worked great for me so far.
