Black and Gold Buell Blast
Black and Gold Buell Blast
I just got approved for financing so that means I can spend 9k on a bike instead of 2.4k so my options have opened up. I have become interested in the Buell Blast. I have heard many good things here and there about it but I do have a couple of issues. First, I would simply like to hear peoples own opinions on the bike. Second, should I be really worried about having a belt break on the side of the road in crapsville nowhere? And last, would anybody happen to know about what it would cost to have the rims painted gold? I really like the black gold combo.

I seem to recall the monster being a reasonable starter bike, But I couldn't say for sure, having never ridden one. Hopefully someone who has, can comment
You may find the service interval on the monster a little short though (with frequent valve adjustments)

The Blast is small, light, mechanically simple, realy efficient, and easy to maintain. The Blast is probably one of the cheapest bikesout there as far maintenance costs go. Its big downside is that it looks like a toy. However there are a lot of options for making into whatever you want and go-faster modifications are really cheap relative to most other bikes. Talk to your local paint and body shop to get a quote on painting the wheels.
The monster is also small, light, and simple, but less so of each than the Buell. The Monster is faster than the Blast but both are relatively slow bikes. The Monster is a lot prettier and will probably get you more respect being a Ducati. Being a Ducati though it will cost probably 4-6x as much to maintain and keep running and more to insure as well. Modifying a Duc is a lot more expensive as well.
My .02: get the Blast as a starter bike, have fun customizing it, and start saving more a more upscale Ducati down the line.

How much more than 100 mph do you want your first bike to go?

i dont mean top speed i mean acceleration.
another bike that has been interesting me is the kawasaki versys.
i was up for about 4 hours last night looking at versys and monsters and i think i really have to decide between those 2.
the monster is cheaper to start with and has the benefit of being a ducati.
but im sure the versys will be more reliable. I think i like the way the versys looks more. i like the half fairing look.
