sv650 died
so we were at a spot tonight. i jumped on my buddies sv650, and did 2 short wheelies....maybe 50-75 feet.
1st wheelie, after maybe 50 feet, it came down, followed by the back tire lockin up and makin the weirdest friggin noise (no i wasn't braking, it just locked up by itself)
i did another wheelies comin back, exact same thing happened. so i stopped.
15 minutes later we left the spot, he felt some power loss and the bike started knocking.
30 more minutes of cruisin around, and his bike just died.
wouldn't turn back on, didn't even crank. had to tow it.
what could it be?

ya, i've actually heard of it happening on maaany SVs, only from looong freeway wheelies thostorysunfolding wrote:oil starvation during the wheelies causing some damage? I've heard this happening on unmodified gsxrs from wheelies.
....but if it was oil starved, wouldn't it turn off right away and not 45 minutes later?

Re: hmmm
Sounds like it did. From the original post, it appears that you managed to sieze the engine twice. If your buddy regularly does wheelies and starves the engine of oil, your wheelies were probably just the icing on the cake. Unlike old 2-strokes, modern 4-stroke engines suffer damage when this happens. The final sieze 45 minutes later (likely indicated by the fact that it would even crank) was just the cumulative result.Dirtytoes wrote:ya, i've actually heard of it happening on maaany SVs, only from looong freeway wheelies thostorysunfolding wrote:oil starvation during the wheelies causing some damage? Most motorcycle engines are not designed to provide proper internal engine lubrication at extreme angles. If you like to ride wheelies, be prepared to shell out for a new engine every now and then.

Do the lights work when you turn the ignition?
Might be the alternator "poo poo" itself and you were running on battery power.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

well, hes been poppin wheelies on that thing for months....he usually gets 25-50 feet.
the ones i did were roughly 40-50 feet long.
and yes, the front lights do turn on.
