1982 yamaha 650, idles too fast

Carbs were rebuilt, cleaned and adjusted, idles at 1200 for an hour of driving, then gradually builds to 2000 rpm, idle screw has been backed out as much as it can go before falling out.
any ideas as what to look for??

Floats too high.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
