BT, DT.

I was going to ask if you had your kickstand down, but there are three switches involved (kickstand, clutch, neutral; five if you include the thumb and key) and I wanted to do the empirical thing to see what combos did exactly what, in case "second nature" was making me misremember while I typed.

But it looks like it's all better now.

For the record:

In neutral, you can start or run.
Kickstand up, clutch in, you can start or run.
In gear, kickstand down, you can't start or run.
In gear, kickstand up, clutch out, twisting throttle, you can ride like the wind dreams of.

Depends on the bike.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Yeah. And it's 6 switches:

Key
Thumb (aka kill)
Clutch
Kickstand
Neutral

and

The start button, of course.

It still depends on the bike.

Most bikes will let you start in gear with the clutch pulled in. Some won't. Most bikes will let you start with the kickstand down, some won't.

Some bikes won't kill ignition if you put it in gear with the kickstand down.

Making a blanket statement like that isn't always a good idea.

And it also depends on who owned the bike previously too... For example, I couldn't start my bike with the starter button unless the clutch was pulled in. Notice I said couldn't, not can't.
