just because one air cooled bike is heavier than another liquid cooled bike doesnt mean that this statement is not true:

"Liquid cooled bikes are almost always heavier (radiator, radiator fluid, extra hardware, etc)."

However, its hard to make generalizations when it comes to either liquid vs air cooled.

The Sportster is not liquid cooled. No 2008 Harley-Davidson is liquid cooled as far as I can see (except the VSRC of course).

Yeah..thats what I call lack of sleep. That was fuel injected vs carbs. Don't mind me! :)

All other things being equal, liquid cooling is going to add weight. The weight of aluminum fins on an air cooled engine is trivial when compared to the weight of a water pump, hoses and hardware, a radiator, and the coolant itself.


The new Suzuki 650 looks like a Katana replacement. The water cooled inline 4 from the bandit will definitely give it plenty of get up and go. It looks like it will be aimed at what I call the "tame sportbike" niche. Bikes have high performance features, but not a full-on race configuration. Kind of like the Yammy FZ6.

It looks like a pretty sweet second bike! I think it looks much nicer than the faired bandit, but i'm curious to find out what rates the insurance companies would charge.
