Hi to all. I am hoping to make a long trip next summer. My wife and I recently bought a '96 Heritage Softtail Classic and we are having a new motor put on it. (not my original plan but that's what it needed.) Otherwise it it spotless.
We did a cross country trip about 25 years ago (IL-NJ) That was great fun. We camped most of the way. The bride says she is willing to travel again but not willing to camp.
I am hoping to travel to Maine in early July 2008. Leaving Northern Indiana, traveling across Ohio, NY (stop at Niagra Falls), NH, a piece of VT and into Maine. My initial plans are to avoid interstates. We should have about 2 weeks to travel.
Any tips are appreciated. I would really like to coordinate the trip with a few bike rallys or charity rides.

When travelling towards NY, pick up Route 20 and Route 5 in PA. Avoids I-90. Rt 5 will take you along Lake Erie. Some very beautiful travelling and the road is decent. You can pick them up near the city of Erie in a town called North East PA. (Correction: My wife just walked in and told me you can pick them up in Ohio somewhere.)

Thanks Scoutmedic, I can actually pick up Route 20 here in Indiana. I am thinking of trying to make the entire trip without any interstate riding. Seems like it would be much more interesting. I like the "unchained" concept discussed in another thread. These are the things that will make an ordinary trip into something special.
