Want to get a sport bike as first motorcycle

#1 Unread post by guitarist4781 »

Hey, im 16 and im looken to buy my first bike next spring. I have ridden dirtbikes b4 and am familiar with shifting gears since i can drive stick in a car. I know most people say start out on a 250 or 500 but i know i will get bored with them in a week. I was looken at these bikes-

Kawasaki- zzr 600

Honda- cbr600rr, or cbr600f4i

yamaha- yzf 600r

suzuki- katana 600

hopefully u can tell me these are good choices to learn on but they are something that i will be happy with for a long time once i get good enough for high speeds. i hope there comfortable enough to ride to the beach which is a 2 hour ride. whats ure opinoin?

Shifting on a bike is nothing like in a car other than 2 things. There's a clutch. And a transmission.

Oh yeah, none of those bikes are good for learning on. If you HAVE to have a 600, get a 650 twin. How much experiance do you have on a dirtbike? 2 or 3 rides amounts to basically nothing on a street bike. How tall are you? If you liked the dirtbike, maybe a dual sport would be a good idea for you.

Million dollar question - how do you know you'll get bored?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I think we all know where this is going..

Guitarrist, trust me... I am 16 too, and you should definitly get a 250 or 500. Anything above that should be a 2nd bike. What do you mean you'll get bored with it? That doesnt make any sence.. Unless you plan on breaking the law or going to a race track then it wont matter if you get a 250 over a 10000000cc. I guess you could hurt yourself better on a 10000000cc, so that "omg omg omg im gunna die" feeling might make it more fun

What does age have to do with anything?

I saw a 45 year old buy a ZX14R for his first bike, he was scared to roll it down a short ramp.

Not always a whole lot. From what I've deduced from intotherain's replies to myself and others on the board, he puts a lot of weight on people's age.
