LOL, it's happened before. I have a picture of me bleeding from the face with a "poo poo" eating grin (or as good of one as I can without moving my face too much).

Um... ya - Geoff never said that it made him squeamish. And certainly if my own arm gets amputated it's going to affect me much differently than dealing with an amputee patient of mine. Geesh! Some of the EMTs that I met during my training and some with whom I now work, have no qualms in starting an IV on their patients, but if you come at them with a needle, they go running.

I like the taste of blood too, but having larger amounts of blood in the stomach can cause vomiting, and I'm certain that it won't be as yummy on its way out!
Hmmm... sorry Loonette,
1-He did post that blood was dripping down his throat(not swallowing buckets) and he felt like puking, sounds a bit squeamish to me.
2-I guess I'm different.Seeing, tasting, swallowing my own blood doesn't bother me in the least.
3-I must have missed the part where he said his nose was amputated.

Hey Geoff, don't mean to put you down, but going by how I feel about my own blood, your post just seemed strange. If you say it was more of an annoyance then that's fine, I guess I didn't read it that way.
I always follow the rules.
The only exception to the rule occurs when I make an exception to the rule not to make an exception to the rule and that only occurs under exceptional circumstances.

OK - since you apparently don't get it, I'll try again...
That statement I made was in response to you stating that maybe he shouldn't be an EMT if he doesn't like the sight of blood. I was merely trying to create the understanding that in any situation (amputation, vomit, blood, needles, crushed chest, bullet wound, WHATEVER...), many EMTs can handle seeing these things in their patients but not in themselves. Sorry for not explaining that more clearly for you - I didn't realize it was so hard to understand!!

Feeling the urge to vomit with a certain amount of blood in the stomach is physiological, and the amount of blood that would cause that reaction can vary from person to person. It's not so much the person thinking about blood being in their stomach, but rather a reaction of the stomach itself to expel the blood. It's a defense mechanism of the body.

Anything else?

It's not like I go out looking for fresh blood to drink intentionally...... for now at least.

I'm starting to like my steaks medium rare instead of well done... must be a bad sign.
