The generally accepted helmet 'replacement' cycle is 5 years, unless you drop it (or crash).
The fellow who did my BRC told me. So did the guy at the shop where I bought my helmet. My uncle reinforced this belief. Jimmy who sells me Kebabs when I want them has been riding since he was a feotus, and he said, 'Yeah. You're supposed to, but not many people do.'
