I thought insurance was a non-requirement for motorcycles? It is for Washington state anyways.

There are some states that don't require motorcycle insurance. Not many of them.

Just because they don't require it doesn't mean it isn't a good idea.

Also, if you do get in an accident, one that you caused, or just a single-party accident - you're going to want some cash to cover expenses, as it just might not be the bike that you're coming out of pocket for.

As for bike choice - why not a Ninja 650?

Not to mention that it will be quite a bit harder to learn on a bike like that.
