I'd grab a Suzuki Hayabusa instead of any mere 600. It's pretty quick so you won't get bored with it too quick. You should have plenty of rocket in your crotch for some time!

Here are some other links to check out before making a decision as well:

Also, go to a variety of dealers and sit on all kinds of different motorcycles. First to find what style (Sport, Standard, Cruiser) fits you best followed by which bike fits you best.
Good Luck, Have Fun and Stay Safe Out There!

There are some decent beginner bikes out there that you can check out. Try to stay away from 600cc+ super sports.riece29 wrote:Just wanted to ask what is the best sportbike to get for a new rider. For example, the Suzuki GS500f is a good beginner's bike. So is the Kawasaki Ninja 250 or 500. If you're in Canada, you can also check out the Honda CBR125r.

Depending on your income, I'd get a Ninja 250, 500, or GS500F.
Insurance for a Ninja 250 is very low. Especialy if you dont get full coverage, it can be as low as 250 a year for a 16 year old. I get about 70-80 miles to the gallon, and maybe 85 if I ride it gently through back roads.
If you want some more brute power, get one of the 500 bikes, but of course they'll burn more gas, be a tad higher on insurance and cost nearly 2 grand more if not a used one.
