Im a noob and am looking at purchasing my first bike. Id like a cruiser thats under 600cc. I originally thought about bikes down at the 250cc but feel that maybe the range in between would be better as it would let me grow into the bike and I wouldnt be wanting a new one next year. Im looking at used too to save money and reduce the amount of crying, I mean anger at laying the bike down. Anyway, here are the 3 Ive come up with... any recommendations or suggestions... thanks

Honda Shadow VLX
Kawasaki Vulcan 500
Yamaha XV535 Virago

Also, any good magazines or websites that show comparisons or recommendations for gear?
I have the Vulcan 500 and I pretty much put 30,000+ miles on it. I've ridden the virago as well.

Out of the 3 the Vulcan gets the most mileage on a full tank, will out accelerate the VLX and it is pretty smooth on the highway. The Virago is a hair slower than the Vulcan but both are squishy on the front forks so be ready to experience a bit of front end dive when braking hard.

Are you just looking for cruisers to start off with or are you also looking at the low end sport bikes as well?

Another cruiser to look at is the Shadow 750 Aero or I guess the others in that area. A V-Star is also pretty good as well.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.
