ban seatbelt and helmet laws and enforce no cell phone usage

A banning of cell phone use in cars would be more helpful then having helmet and seatbelt laws. The gov cares too much about motorcyclists wearing helmets and drivers wearing seatbelts. Just slowing down the process of natural selection in my opinion... if they don't want to wear a damned seat belt or helmet let them be.
however using a cellphone puts other people in danger making it a better law than those. Not wearing a seatbelt or helmet only puts the idiot at risk.


There should be no laws to protect the stupid as it would increase the average IQ of the world a few digits.

Conn already bans the use of hand held cell phones. No one obeys the law tho. As for the seatbelt and helmet law I agree. They should be banished.

I choose to wear them, but don't care if other people don't want too.

If we are talking about motorcycle safety more things can be done than banning cell phones. How about some TV adds at the beginning of every season. How about teaching new drivers to be alert for motorcycles. How about posting road signs on at least the heavily traveled motorcycle roads.
I see road signs all over Conn saying "share the road with bicycles" Why are motorcycles excluded?

Heres a fun fact. My niece just turned 16 and is getting ready to learn to drive. I was looking thru the Conn state issued drivers manual and could not find one mention of motorcycles. Whats up with that?

If you're asking the people to start being aware of bikers on the road then you'll have a large amount of people questioning about their legality if they're not seen as easily.

Also I fear that banishing helmet laws then you'll have a larger amount of people screaming to get rid of motorcycles if any increase in motorcycle related fatalities make it on the evening news probably highlighting the fact that we want freedoms to ride without protection so it would be good to get rid of us as a whole.

Just got to be careful on where and how we tread because when I did some googling on such topics there's a lot of people who don't want to share the road with us.

Hey intotherain, good ideas, I'm a big fan of natural selection too You don't want to wear your helmet/seatbelt? What do I care...I will be wearing mine fo' sho'. There would have to be some kind of insurance disclaimer (right word?)though, I don't want to have to pay higher rates because of the folks who don't want to protect themselves are incurring huge medical bills that insurance has to cover.

It's not very hard to notice someone using a phone or TXT'ing while driving, however, most law enforcement probably doesn't see the justification of pulling someone over for strictly using a phone.

It should be enforced, but they would really need to buckle down, and realize probably 75% of their agency will be in the middle of a traffic stop at the same given time.

That's the kind of thinking that must change. While law enforcement sees 'no reason', the effects of those distractions are still occurring. At any rate, instead of giving piddly low-cost tickets for that make it a good hefty fine and points. That will relay the importance and seriousness of the enforcement.

Yeah insurance should make a "no full face helmet, no coverage" policy... which would be better than any helmet law.


I wish "no cellphones" was a law here, you can usually tell if the driver is using a cell phone because they are driving with one hand and their head is tilted. When I saw this I usually slow down and such.

A scary thing to experience is this:

You are cruising down a road when there is a guy wanting to turn left in front of you, and he's on a cell phone, but not just that, there is a guy on the perpendicular street wanting to turn left to the opposite lane you're on, AND he's on a cell phone too!

This happened to me a few days ago and I just turned right on the street to avoid any complications.

The gosh law in NY states that the police can prosecute for driving with a phone only if they break any other traffic laws. How fvckin stupid is that.

There are states where the local no-cell-phone laws are enforced. New York just isn't one of them.
