if you doubt your aptitude and are set on a motorcylce definetely get something small....if you take the msf course though you might find that you have a bit more talent that you thought.

good luck

The sticky at the top of the forum for new bikers has a great list of perfect beginning bikes suitable for all experience levels.

Ive been looking at the ninja 250/500, 250 nighthawk, etc.

First of all, you have fgood friends who obviously care about you. Second there's a ton of bikes to choose from, there's a sticky up at the top. With a huge list on the second page somewhere. It also depends whether you want a sport or cruiser style bike. You can sneak a 600-650 cruiser on there, but I'd stay away from any sportbike like that.

Another thing to consider is that as a dirtbiker you now have a lot of bad habits that will get you into a ton of trouble on a street bike. So take it REALLY easy out there.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

just thought i'd point out that just because you were never really that good on a dirt bike means absolutly nothing compared to riding on the street. so be safe and don't worry so much. as far as bikes go if your looking for a sport bike a 250 ninja should treat you alright. personally i'd go with a UJM (universal japanese motorcycle)between 250-400cc's something from the mid 80's would be good. there dependable and very forgiving.
