As long as you live under your parent's roof -- you MUST respect their wishes.

At 18 you are considered an adult ....... so if you are living with your parents it is due solely to their good graces. Do NOT abuse it their trust in you.

If they are paying some or all of your college expenses ...... respect their wishes.

They may never change their minds ..... and that is something that you will need to deal with .... but do it once you move out and are financially independent. NOT BEFORE!

The bike can wait. Be glad that you have some form of transportation available to you.

I know it's not what you want to hear .... but as an ADULT .... you must learn to balance your wants ...... with your needs, desires and pocket book.

Man, you guys are good. Couldn't say it better.

Suck it up and focus on your studies. The good stuff (ie bike) will fall into place once you've done what's immediately in front of you. You should be thankful that you have a van available to you. I had to either 10-speed it or took a bus while at college.

You don't want to spend that $1250 on a motorcyle...least not yet. You're going to need every dime you get while at college. I remember eating lettuce sandwiches because I couldn't afford meat. Ah well. It made me tough...you know the saying "what doesn't kill you will make you stronger." Tis true. Make success taste much sweeter when you get there.

yea you guys are right. I am sort of underestimating college and im banking on a couple of scholarships that i dont have yet. I firmly believe in respecting my parents wishes. When I orignally posted this i was a little emotional because of it being shot down so quickly. I figured the forums would be a good place to get advice on the situation and to hear other peoples experiences before I acted on a whim. I know in Florida the rain is completely on the spot. I remember leaving the windows down on my car on a cloudless morning only to find by mid afternoon it was pouring down rain. I would try to avoid the rain but its impossible to always steer clear of it. By the way I really appreciate your advice its definitely helping me to make a better decision
Be a man and take the van!

Glad you're taking our advise. Good things come to those who wait. After you finish college you'll be able to get a good job and afford a better bike. Good luck to you.
