#1 Unread post by MattC13 »

Ok i know this is a big topic and there is a million different kinds but what kind of motor oil is best if you can call it that. I guess just tell me what you guys use and ill go with the majority. Synthetic vs. Non Name Brand vs. generic car oil vs. motorcycle oil what do you use?

I use OEM motorcycle oil. I don't believe in synthetic oil.

Been using synthetic since the 600 mile service. Went ALL synthetic - transmission/drive as well (Amsoil) at the 12K service - last spring.

Now pushing 30K miles.

I use Rotella T 15W-40. $9 a jug from Wal-Mart. Cheap, works great.

When I get a more expensive bike, I'll be using synthetic just like I do in my car. Mobil 1 and nothing else.

I am also using Shell Rotella T 15-40 for my bike. After I get a few thousand miles I will switch to synthetic. Either Amsoil 20-50 or Mobil 1 VTwin 20-50 synthetics.

I think the 15W-40 heavy duty oils are hard to beat for air cooled motorcycles calling for the old SG spec 10W-40 oils. I use the Mobil Delvac 1300 or Shell Rotella T 15W-40 diesel/truck oils now.

A good read on the subject:

I use AMSOIL products in all of my vehicles, lawnmowers, toys, etc. Of course I am partial to AMSOIL products, since I am a dealer. If anyone needs any info on how to get these products, pm me.
