#1 Unread post by myles loud »

i just trailered my bike in an enclosed trailer about 700 miles. rachet straps, and it took the ride well.
when i started it up the selenoid, or start button stayed engaged. now when i turn the ignition on it try's to start up without hitting the button. just turn the egnition and the starter is engaged.
it's a 1975 1200, i tried replacing the selonoid but it still does it.
any info???
thnx,
myles

You need a wiring diagram. Souns like a premature ground AFTER the solenoid but before the switch.

took the headlight shroud off, and the front bralke control (start button located in the housing) moved a few wires, also took the seat of and checked.
it seems to be working now.
could it be the starter button itself?
where can i get an old replacement like the original?

Sorry i'm having internet troubles ... woulda gotten back sooner.

You might try cleaning all the wires and contact points in there, make sure everthing is working smoothly. See if that does it for you. If not, there are plenty of old Harley parts places out there, but none that I can think of that are online...

Dunno where you are located but there are a ton of places in Daytona Beach that probably could sell you a replacement. Check online and even call any local arley places if you have them .. you never know what may be collecting dust in the storerooms!
