Rules for an 18yr old newb

#1 Unread post by cagle09 »

I am 17 years old and I have been pondering the question to buy a motorcycle.. I have thrown the idea out to my family and friends many times and today I was surfing the net and found some rules and regulations.. One of the websites said that If I take the motorcycle course when im 18 i have to wait 2 years to be able to ride a motorcycle over 125cc legally... Is there any truth to this or is this just a fake?

I dunno. I know here in Virginia, you have to have a lisence until you are 18, or 2 years (whichever is sooner, normally it's 18) then you take the MSF or 3 DMV tests, and you get a Motorcycle's learners permit for 9 months, then you get your lisence.
Don't know how much different it is in Michigan :\

Go to your state's DMV site and look it up.

Wow that's rough. I took my MSF course in October and got my license later that month at the age of 16. (that was in Wisconsin, and it's the exact same in California)

I mean, I assume it's not that bad. I'm sure it cuts down on idiots that want to ride a bike just because it looks cool, and they want to impress the ladies, or whatever.
Too bad there's not a restriction, like Less than 500CC for the first year or something :\

But, 9 months, and all that really has to happen is having a car with someone you know in it watch you.. Well 9 months is kind of long, but whatever. I'm sure I can get away without having someone follow me around for 9 months

But its kind of dumb also. It's like if you are 19 years old, it's 30 days of permit, but if you're 18.. Then it's 9 months? mentally challenged if you ask me :|

Literally...
I've seen so many idiots near my house crash on their brand new CBR F4i, Ninja 636's and Suzuki GSX-R
Just look at Washington DC's craigslist under motorcycles.. See how many GSX-R 600's are there for cheap, because the idiot owner crashed them..

Psht, weaksauce... just 600ccs? All the freshmen/sophomores here buy R1s, ZX-10Rs as first bikes! Obviously the more manly men...
