For those of you in the NY/NJ area:
I have my first major highway ride this weekend (Friday evening). Heading from NYC to the Jersey Shore - about 50 miles.
Generally I'm coming from Manhattan so it's one of the tunnels, but I'll actually be leaving from Brooklyn. I've never been over either the Verrazano or the Goethals bridge in a car so I have no idea what they're like.
Is there any reason I would want to avoid the Brooklyn-->Staten Island-->NJ route and return to Manhattan instead?

I haven't been on any of those bridges. If they are steel deck that can make for an interesting ride. When riding on steel deck don't fight the handlebars and don't do any sudden acceleration/braking.
The traffic going to the jersey shore should be horrendous so you mite actually be walking that bike over the bridge. Have fun and make sure you get some jersey girl poon. Thats good stuff.
