Gear and stuff

So, the clock is ticking. 2 months and I get some R&R - the SV650 will be mine. I also need appropriate riding gear, and I haven't kept up with what's available, so I'm seeking some input.

Bike: Suzuki SV650 (blue)

Helmet: Shoei RF1000???

Jacket: No. Idea.

Boots: I'll be sporting my issue combat boots.

Gloves: open to suggestions.

Any other items you'd recommend I pickup? With 8 months of combat-pay, I won't exactly be hurting for funds, so if you can suggest something that'll prove useful for me - I'll look into getting it.

I'd try the shoei on first. The main thing with helmets is that you want them to fit well and be certified by DOT. My Vega helmet fits better than the Arai helmet I tried on the other day, and it's $300 cheaper with the same certification. Don't blow a wad on a helmet that won't be comfortable, bro.

As far as the jacket/pants go, and since I know you'll be riding down here in the southern heat, I'd invest in a Joe Rocket textile jacket/pants combo. The Alter Ego jacket/pants combo works really well, as they both have the waterproof liners, zip together and everything. Good 2-piece riding suit if you don't want to blow a load of cash on a set of racing leathers.

Gloves. Get some that fit, basically. They need to be full-fingered and comfortable, since at speed wind shear can make your hands go numb as fast as any vibration in the controls.

If money is no object, and you plan on doing any knee-dragging in twisties around Columbus, I would recommend you spend the money on a Dainese 1- or 2-piece suit and some good riding boots. Best to be as protected as possible...

I'd concur with psycluded on this. The only other thoughts I have are get something that offers some protection from the rain (especially the boots) and consider a bag of some sort. Whether it be a tank bag, saddle bag or a plain ol backpack. Comes in handy.

There are twisties near Columbus? They elluded my Camaro for a whole year!

I appreciate the input, I will try on helmets and find one that's comfortable, has good airflow, and meets the required specs. As for suits, I plan to get a set of leathers eventually, but the riding suit may come first. Anyway, thanks for the advice, if anyone else has any specific products they recommend, feel free to post 'em (with links if possible) and I'll start my virtual shopping as much as this slowww connection allows.
