Looking away for 1 second

#1 Unread post by Jas0n »

So.. I checked my blind spot for 1 breif second. Next thing I know I almost smash into the back of a minivan. I would have if I didn't do the brake-swerve technique I learned in the MSF.

I guess whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

Hah, yeah. I learned the 'timing' thing the hard way years ago: 17 years old, already on my 2nd car (cuz I had crashed the 1st one), narrow lanes in heavy traffic. I'm nervous cuz it's crowded and there's a bus next to me; go to check my mirrors and.... crrrrrrrrrrrrunch. Some old biddy had pulled most of the way into the left turn lane, but her tail was still hanging out and I nailed it.

Lesson learned: make sure you've got a handle on what is happening in front of you before you check out what's happening around/behind.

If you don't like ceemes undies, I've got some you can have, too. But they're kind of girly. :) Good job on avoiding an unpleasant incident.

A golden rule: only take your eyes off what is in front of you if it is safe to do so. What's going on behind is important, but not as important as what is going on up front. You should be scanning for hazards all the time, so you should be aware of when it is safe.

That way, you get to wear you own undies. And ceemes... Well, I'm sure his offer was entirely innocent.
