Kelly only goes back to 1975. Their prices are a little off higher than going rate on rice burners. Lower than going prices on HD and BMW. For a five year old bike they are about 10% high on rice 20% low on HD and BMW. This is compared to bikes for sale in newspapers and Craigslist.

IMHO, Kelly Blue Book is a great resource.
I used Kelly Blue Book when looking for used bikes, and every offer I made was for private sales, and my offers split the difference between Blue Book Retail, and Blue Book Trade-In values. All bikes were in excellent condition, with lower than average (often much lower) miles. I had a few sellers balk at my offers saying they were being low balled, but whether it was a couple days later, or a couple weeks every seller called back willing to do the deal at my price. The bikes were an '06 Sportster 1200, an '05 Suzuki M50, an '03 V-star 1100 Custom, and an '01 V-star 650 Classic. The only guy that didn't want to make a deal was the V-star 1100 owner, who told me he decided to keep the bike rather than sell.

Craigslist.org will get you competitive asking prices for your area. Location is a big factor in used bike prices due to the general bike riding season for most riders.
Also the time of year will add or subtract from your price as it is a seaonal product for most riders. Like selling outdoor pools in winter in the far north/south.

The problem is those are asking prices, and many people are hugely inflating the asking price. Lots of people on Craigslist are asking well over Blue Book Retail, and many are even asking more than MSRP of a new bike for bikes that are several years old. I don't care how many accessories someone hangs on a bike, there is no way people should expect to be paid at or above sticker of a brand new bike for one that is used. Yet, many people are asking ridiculously high prices for their bikes.flw wrote:Craigslist.org will get you competitive asking prices for your area.
