I agree with mg. I bought my bike for $1175 in CALIFORNIA! It has 450 cc and is perfect starter.

I pay $35.00 for insurance Im 23.

Listen man it's worth it and it's really not much more for something that you get a license on. You'll feel like a fool if a cop writes you a ticket or worse takes it away.

I think your a little intimitated by motorcycles just go sit on some at a dealer. They aren't as hard has they look. Sure you have to respect them but definetly not as bad if you start on something low

Just my 2 cents.

to mgdavis: fair enough; you're right safety should be the number one priority and i should base my selection on something that won't give me more problems than it "should"

to Artticus: lol see thats the difference, im not intimidated by motorcycles at all, I've been riding the bigger ones as a passenger for the longest time whenever I visit italy. my cousins/uncles/"friends" over there bring me around regularly, and I've even driven a few of their mopeds (nothing bigger than that)

what scares me is the insurance; you pay $35.00, I'll be paying $4000+ a year

but yea thanks all of you for the comments so far, I really am appreciating them

That is something that our friends to the south just don't understand. If they had to pay that much for insurance they might feel different about it.

$4000 a year screams to me that you're looking at the wrong bikes to start on. Try doing an insurance search for a year 2002 kawasaki ninja 500 or suzuki gs500

You'll most likely find the quotes a tad more reasonable, and 5 year old bikes, generally still have lots of life in them

Nibblet 99: good call on the 2002 kawasaki ninja, the ex 500 will only cost me between $3000 - $3500 yearly, which isn't too bad actually LOL

the suzuki came out to about $3000 yearly too, which again isn't bad, but it's not exactly $35.00

and just for the hell of it i checked out a ducati 998, and let's not go there LOL

Daaaaamn thats still pricey as hell, I'd almost feel sorry for you over there, but we still get shafted on fuel here, so I guess we're about even

Yopure going to get hosed on insurance...its just the way it is for a new rider in ontario. I pay approx 2000 a year on an 06 vulcan 500 ( a good beginner bike BTW, if youre a cruiser fan...which it doenst seem like you are...)

just get yourself a ninja 250 or the like if youre truely interested...take the MSF, they have access to small beginner friendly bikes. and take it easy...

oh, and here...pocket bikes at deals gap...just for $hits and giggles.

I pay about $1200 on insurance a year. And I have a 650. The catch is I only got the bare minimum for coverage. Just enough so it's legal.

I'd think B.C would be more expensive on.. Just about everything, but I could be wrong.
