I got my 2004 Mistral Grey R1 today

I picked it up today and it wasn't as scary to ride as I thought since coming off a 600. It feels like a really user friendly bike, not as intimidating as I expected at all.

Obviously being a 1000 the engine didn't rev as high at specific speeds and feels like it could go all day long.

It felt quite comfortable and I like the sound of the standard cans.

I opened it up a few times and it sure does fly if you want it to.

I'm very pleased with it and to have attained something I really wanted.

The seat cowl was already fitted, so I removed the pillion foot pegs when I got home. I am waiting for a Yamaha carbon yoke protector to arrive and the R&G crash protectors (frame sliders) to come in stock and be fitted. I have a clear tank pad ready to go on once I've removed a couple of stickers. I will be getting a tail tidy.

Thank you all!

I forgot to include that I have a Yamaha-racing.com race screen fitted too.

I was instantly attracted to the current generation R1 (04/05), it looks mean and refined with wonderful styling.

I was never sure about this colour from Yamaha's pictures, but it looks much nicer in 'person' and not as bright. Here is the picture from Yamaha-motor.co.uk in stock form (I have taken some of my own and will add them once I've got them off the camera):

I like the Raven R1 though, but they're not available in the UK.

Looks vaguely like a shark going after a tire, but that doesn't make me any less jealous!
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

It's the bike I really wanted since they were released and I had a good opportunity so I took it.

The more I look at it, pictures don't do it justice. It really is a mean looking bike.

The performance of the bike is incredible and it handles brilliantly.

It's a confidence inspiring bike and is a lot easier to ride than my ZX-6R.

Despite it's tremendous power I still have the same mentality as before and don't ride like a maniac. I have a lot of self control and don't abuse the power of the bike.

The tail tidy arrived today and looks nice and compact and it takes the standard indicators. I will try and fit it tonight.
