linking not allowed?

#1 Unread post by webbiker »

I made my first post yesterday mentioning my new motorcycle related site and invited people to visit. My post and account was promtly deleted. I'm not selling anything nor I don't feel that i was spamming. Is linking to other sites forbidden? I won't mention the site again, but just wondering?

Yes, it came across as spamming, I read it and just hit the back button...
Every once in a while we get people over here that just advertise, spammers basically, and that's what it came across as...
If you're gonna say you like the site, at least introduce yourself first, in the new riders section, then explain why you like it, how you think it'll help, or what specifically makes it so great...

Yup, we get a lot of spammers and people promoting their own sites here.

We try to keep on top of all the threads, and remove spam as quickly as possible. This is also to keep things ledgible, its nice being able to see all the content without wading through lots of spam to find the ones with content.

I personally have no objections to a person who is a part of the community sneaking in a link for their own site on the sly. But when its your first and only post, you have to admit, it is a tad cheeky.

Mike (totalmotorcycle) is the man with the overall say. If you feel we're being unjust, please do send him a PM privmsg.php?mode=post&u=2

Agreed. If you would have taken the time to say - Hi my name is Bob (or whatever) and I ride a Honda Something or other. I'm from Blah blah blah. And posted to a few other thread, no one would have had a beef with you dropping a link to your site. But when you have only one post on the whole board suggesting we come you your board and make it better, that's a bit weak.

I actually checked the site out (I was bored at work) and added a few links. I took it as spam as well but, took a look before condemning it. It's a cool idea and, I'll add more links in the future for ya.

:welcome4:

Be sure to check this site out if you haven't already. It's definitely worth being a member of. :tmwsign:

As was mentioned above, a first post promoting your own site = :spam:

That is why I deleted your account. You wouldn't believe the number of first posts doing the exact same thing that get posted in here. There are so many in fact that if we don't delete them they begin to pollute the board making it less enjoyable for everyone.

TMW began modestly by providing good content and a friendly forum that grew on it's own merits over time. There were never links posted on other sites "promoting this great new site", which is considered in bad taste in most forums. Please take the time to contribute to the forum and get to know everyone. You are always welcome here if that is your intent.

Cheers,

High_Side
