Is a 1985 yamaha XJ700 to much for a beginning rider?

#1 Unread post by NewbieBiker21 »

I have the opportunity to buy a 1985 yamaha XJ700 for 800 bucks, very well taken care of by the owner, but it would be my first street bike. Does anyone think this is to much bike for me? i am concerned about the sheer weight of the bike ( over 500 pounds ) and i heard that the bike is VERY fast. BE REAL WITH ME PEOPLE, i need some advice here. anything will help. thanks!

Properly not the best choice. They have 85 ponies and weigh right at 500lbs.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

The bike is too heavy and fast for a beginner. If you want a sport bike get a Ninja 250 or even the new Honda 125. Next years models for the ninja are going to look even better.
Ducati Monster 1100 (Vrooom!!)
Aprilia Shiver 750 (sold)
2007 Kawasaki Ninja 250cc (sold)
